Traveling for medical treatment:
Community Flights has landed at the Sunshine Coast Aero Club.
Community Flights is a registered charity established to provide aircraft transport, free of charge, to those living in remote or regional locations who require non-emergency medical treatment.
The Sunshine Coast Aero Club is excited to announce that Community Flights are staging their Sunshine Coast Airport operations from the Aero Club. The committee has unanimously voted to offer Community Flights an honorary membership and AeroClub keys for early morning flight arrivals.
Community Flights Founder, Director, and pilot, Mark McMurtrie, has expressed his deepest gratitude for the assistance and encouragement the Sunshine Coast Aero Club has provided. “The generosity and support from everyone I’ve met at the Sunshine Coast Aero Club, and the broader aviation community, has been overwhelming. Starting a charity has been a highly challenging but rewarding experience, and the words of encouragement from everyone around help drive us onwards (and upwards). Close to a third of our flights have brought cancer patients to the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, so the assistance from the Aero Club helps make this journey smooth for us and the patient.”
Club Director, Naomi McQueen, is pleased that the Club can assist Community Flights. “The work Mark and his team are doing provide invaluable support to those living outside of city hubs. Access to aviation reduces barriers faced by those in regional and rural locations; we are pleased that our Club can help make medical journeys as easy as possible for members of our Queensland community”.
